Our First Steps Program currently serves 32 children, ages 5 to 22, from the Berkeley to Hayward corridor. An after school program during the school year, the program expands to full day in the summer and over school vacations. The First Steps Program is firmly committed to the concept of normalization (inclusion), and all of its activities reflect this commitment. Our purpose is to aid children’s development in vocational and life skills through hands on activities in the following curriculum areas: grooming/hygiene, cooking, nutrition, community integration, time management and recreation.
